Macy Melchor was awarded two scholarships by our club in 2020. She was the recipient of a $5000 scholarship from the Hawaii Rotary Youth Foundation (HRYF). She was also enrolled in a scholarship program with the club when she attended Koloa Elementary School and received an additional $1000 for completing high school with good grades. Macy will be studying Nursing at Washington State University.
Due to circumstances beyond our control, and with an abundance of caution, One Fine Evening was cancelled for 2020. Check back in 2021 about this important and fun fundraiser.

How to Train Your Dragon: Hidden World (2019)

When Hiccup discovers Toothless isn't the only Night Fury, he must seek "The Hidden World", a secret Dragon Utopia before a hired tyrant named Grimmel finds it first.
The concession stand will be staffed by Koloa Elementary School teachers and parents to raise funds for school activities.
Bring a beach chair and a blanket. Come and enjoy the fresh air and free movie.
This event also supports the Koloa Elementary School PTSA as they offer a food concession at the movie. This has enabled them to fund many extracurricular programs that improve the quality of campus life for all of their students by funding after school activities and supplemental education programs that do not make it into the school budgets.

A neighborhood in Koloa was hit with flash floods. At that time Rotary Club of Poipu Beach and many other community groups helped families to clean out damaged house materials and goods.
Also, during the past year Rotary Club of Poipu Beach partnered with RumFire Poipu Beach - Kauai Table 53, Hardware Hawaii, and other individuals to raise funds to aid families with recovery and rebuilding.
We partnered with Hawaii Red Cross to distribute Hardware Hawaii gift cards to families that had cases of major impact.
The Rotary Club of Poipu Beach normally awards up to $15,000 in community grants to nonprofit organizations on Kauai. The funds come from part of the proceeds of our One Fine Evening fundraiser that is usually held in March.
The grant awards are used for items such as uniforms, food for the needy, transportation, safety gear, cultural education, sporting equipment and literacy supplies. Each grantee organization must be sponsored by a Rotarian and then is invited to apply for the grant awards.
Nancy Kanna, Rotary Club of Poipu Beach past president and community grants chair, said since the Community Grant Program was established in 2001, the club has awarded over $275,000 to over 50 organizations.
“By partnering and funding specific items for other nonprofits, we are able to work together to have an even greater impact in the Kauai community,” Kanna said.
